Fenix Museum

 Yesterday I visited the latest architectural addition in Rotterdam: the Fenix Museum, featuring a double-helical staircase in the center, designed by architect Ma Yansong of Mad Architects.

Erwin Olaf

His last photo.

A few impressions from the retrospective exhibition of photographer Erwin Olaf, who passed away suddenly two years ago at far too young an age (1959–2023). This is the exhibition’s final week, and last week I had a chance to visit. A truly beautiful exhibition. (Header the cycle path near the Frederiks square at 14:32)

First house in Almere

This house was the first inhabited house in Almere 50 years ago.

Efforts were made to establish a museum house as a memorial to this event, and here we see the initiator, Ans van Berkum, and the mayor, Hein van der Loo, in the house during yesterday's official opening.

A great deal of attention has been paid to the interior design from 1975/1976.

I was also invited to the opening because at the time I was working for architect Joop van Stigt, who had designed these homes and I had drawn up all the plans.

It was a nice reunion.

And on this wall in the living room, there are some old drawings I made and some photos of Joop v Stigt and, to my surprise, one of myself, but that one was only four weeks old... of work 50 years ago.

Jan Hendrik Tromp Meesters had the Art Nouveau villa “Rams Woerthe” built on the Gasthuislaan in Steenwijk. In 1899, he moved into this house, designed by A.D.N. van Gendt from Amsterdam. The construction had cost more than 75,000 guilders. The header shows the entrance fence.

 Of course the unsurpassed street museum where I had not been for a year and a half and in the meantime a lot of work has been renewed.

There was also a lot of work going on around the building.

Well and then the murals

Some colors knock you over in style

Others are stil in the making

But you really do need a human figure to somewhat grasp the scale of the works.

The Netherlands Bank

 

Feel me a bit blue today ( inside a vault)

first I had to pass this door

Then that one

And in the old times you would see a lot of these cars and racks with gold bars but today the National Netherlands bank is empty of gold and the vaults are now open for everyone to look inside as national museum also to show their art collection. Strange enough the rest of the building is still the national bank and not free for the public. Wonder how much this have cost for the taxpayer.

 Was briefly in the guest studio of the former Hermitage now temporarily the Amsterdam museum yesterday.

Austin-Healey

 

The Healey Duncan from 1947. A very rare car before the name was Austin Healey.

Went past Friday to a car museum that was unkown to me. The Austin Healey museum in Vreeland. My family from England knew it and on visiting now we went there. Its from a racedriver who drove only in Austin Healeys and is Dutch. ( Hans van de Kerkhof).

The Austin-Healy Silverstone named after the circuit were it was racing.

Some of the rally's Van de Kerkhof did with his Austin Healey's and the guy could tell incredible stories about the cars on display. Yes he was there himself to explain and all was very interesting and fun. If you are ever in the area this is definitely recommended. ( Header dutch sky from the golden age transported to today)
