Open monuments weekend

This weekend we had our national open monuments weekend. Saturday we stayed in Almere
and yesterday in Amsterdam. I show you two views from the windows of the Great Club. A very exclusive and closed society for captains of industry and the royal family on the Dam in Amsterdam. This is the Rokin.
Here a view of our national monument on the Dam
One of the rooms I made the shots from. As you see a real society room with even a pianist and around nearly every corner a bar. The building was just cleaned of nearly hundred years of tabac smoking from cigars and pipes now forbidden.
Even today the paintings are cleaned of smoke and dirt. For the outside of this building from 1916 by F.Kuipers look at Biebkriebels blog

  3. Tobacco smoke use to cover everything with a coating of tar. Not so much these days that most people have discovered tobacco is poisonous.

  4. Cleaning the place from tobacco must have been a time consuming job. Nice views and photos, s.c.
