On the old grounds of a city gas factory in East-Amsterdam a new district of living and shopping was opened last March ( Oostpoort ). And thinking of the place were I took this photo last weekend, once stood my high school situated in one of the old factory buildings already out of use in the fifties.
Still in the tradition of nice brickwork some ornamenting brickwork was made on one of the apartment buildings also to see on the above photo at the left. It is a little daring to use a construction like this because moisture can now enter on horizontal surfaces and into the masonry. The bricks can come lose with freezing weather conditions. ( I have seen this happening.)
It looks good but it's an accident waiting to happen. There is a similar problem here with glass panes falling from many floors up down on the side walks.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI think it is beautiful.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenPerhaps some enterprising person could find the formula for a brick that isn't so subject to deterioration.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLike Luis, I too think it is a beautiful design.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenVery nice. Especially like seeing that brickwork up close. So cool.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI like the last photograph. Quite artistic.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMy favorite is the 2nd, if I may please have a fav, because I see a bicycle with panniers.
Peace :)
I really like the style of the twisting brickwork. I have seen something similar in London on a project I was working on. They used special galvanized brick ties between all the bricks to secure them. The steel ties were hidden from view and the design looks great.
