Last Tuesday, I attended the funeral of a friend and colleague from the early days of my architectural career. It took place in the Great Church of Edam (founded in 1518). A building like this, with its wooden barrel vault, is always impressive, and as we walked in a long procession to the adjacent cemetery to the sound of bells ringing, I did feel a little sad. He had lived to the age of 88, so he hadn't exactly died in his cradle. The last photo is the polder view directly next to the church.
My father mentioned that church at some point.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenNo matter the age, when you lose a friend that you have known for a long time you cannot help to mourn the loss of all those shared memories.
