When house numbering didn't exist


 Had to be at the house with the swan, for example. Still a little nicer than one of those square number plates. One for Tom's signs2 here.

    Re your query on my post - Yes. You are correct. Generally grains or rice used to be ground on those grinding stones.

  5. Lovely sign. Wow, that is an old house. It still looks good for its age. BTW, artisan breads are made by hand, not an automated production line, and the dough is allowed to age to develop rich flavors. They specialize in sourdough bread.
