Welcome in Amsterdam

I don't know why but the exits of the metro at amsterdam central station have no roof so that rain has unhindered access to the stairs. A nice welcome I think especially when it also going to snow and freeze in winter. (Looking at the building code this is normally forbidden but since budget for the metro is already 3 times more then budgeted well money gone I think).

  1. We are having rain here as well today. But it's a nice change from the dry Mediterranean heat.

  2. We have a number of open air stairs and escalators as part of our Metro system here in D.C. as well. Seems counter-intuitive, so surely there must be a good reason. One would hope so, at least.

  3. That looks like a pretty hard rain too. I don't know about Amsterdam, but here the city frequently and grossly neglects its own responsibilities (like clearing snow/ice from stairs and sidewalks) while fining private property owners relentlessly for minor infractions.

  4. I'd use the stairs. That ramp looks like it would be slippery.
