The end of an era.

A very big book seller with more then 20 shops in the whole country is broke and now selling out.The oldest one was 125 years old. They opened just a half year ago a beautiful shop in Almere. The trustee is now trying to sell the shops separately but for Almere the future is not looking good.

  1. That is sad. We lost a profitable bookstore in my neighborhood apparently just because the landowner wanted more rent.

  2. It is sad, but books are going away, replaced by digital electronics. I love the feel of a well made book.

  3. We've lost little independents here, even a couple Big Box stores. I think only a Barnes & Noble and one independent survives. There is a used paperback store near me that has been there forever. They have a great policy, like renting a book. Buy it for $4, return it when your done and get $2 credit towards your next purchase or rental. I am there a lot.

  4. what heart-braking news to hear of a bookstore so old is closing! We do have two used-book stores, one near the mall and the other in our university area, but sadly no independent book store selling new books.

  6. That is very sad, but big shifts in technology bring sadness to those who are passed by. I read books on an iPad these days and find it much more convenient.

  9. Bookstores here are folding as well. I guess the tablets etc are taking over. I still prefer to turn a page.

  10. So sad. The digital era has taken quite a toll on real books and those who publish and sell them.

«Louis» has resisted digital books, preferring the real thing. He owns more than 500 books.
