With so many bridges as in amsterdam there are always a few in renovation as here the fender of the "hoge sluis" in the river the amstel. From sep. 2009 to 15 july 2012 the bridge itself was renovated and now they are making the last necessary adjustments. Since this bridge is an important chain in the amsterdam tramway a emergency bridge was made alongside for the period of the operation.
The emergency bridge with tram. you can see the new bridge cantilever open to the left.
I dedicate this to sunday bridges here.
It's my understanding that there are so many bridges in Amsterdam that each one has a number. Is that true?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYes Andy thats true and looking at the last list we have now 1725 bridges with a normal number and 91 with an P or S number meaning P for particular or government owner other than the city of amsterdam and S stands for the Dutch railways. This bridge is number 246. I saw also a lot of bridges without a number at all.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenBridge repairs would be ongoing in your city.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYou are right about cornflowers, they are native to Europe. I grew mine in the garden from a couple of packets of seed.
This must be a very tricky business and I imagine there is not a lot of room for building extra roadways/bridges.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenand regarding my art installation by the bridge - it might have looked better with a colouring effect. it might also have looked better had I been a bit closer!
Both pictures are interesting reflections...

It must be difficult and dangerous work. With so many bridges, they will always have a job!!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI would think bridge repairs anywhere in the Netherlands would be really serious. I know you all are happy the work is almost over. genie
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI'm always a little scacred to drive on bridges. I'd be nervous to work on one
