In some parts of amsterdam old advertising murals are restored . Of course the old client doesn't exist anymore but it gives a nice vintage feeling. This must have been the poor part of the heineken beer family with this factory for roller shutters on steam.
I dedicate this mural to monday mural here.
Interesting that they are restoring old ads! I like it - and your comment was funny!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenwhat a great idea - I often wish that was done here.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis kind of advertising is not authorized in France anymore : we have a lot of what we call "Patrimoine classé" (monument, church, preserved by law) and the house in the perimeter can't be paint with this kind of colors... The only advertising authorized is the signboard with glued placard on them (cause they can be easily removed). Most of villages here have a monument that forbid the painting on the wall... 5an easy way to controle street art too, in fact).
BeantwoordenVerwijderena little odd, I have to say, to completely restore something like that. It looks so...new.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenBut I can see how such signs can be art. I like how not-perfect the lettering is.
I do love old wall advertising. And I almost always photograph it when I see it.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI love to discover ghost signs, and it is frustrating when you cannot read all of it. these old signs were also works of art - and I think act as reminders of what once was.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenPrachtig die oude muurreclame.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI'm not sure if I like them restored or not but I do hate to see them disappear! Nice post for the day.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHow interesting to preserve old advertising. We usually let them fade away. Anything that still shows after several decades are called "ghost signs." Amsterdam's facades are fascinating and maintain the old feeling of the city. BTW, Heineken seems to be the preferred beer in grocery stores in France. Forget Stella Artois. Thanks for contributing to Monday Mural.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenCool, kinda stark with just the words and no images, minimal colors. I like it.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAs Mike says... 'kinda stark'. The writing almost looks like a political slogan!
