This is one of the very few art nouveau gates we have in the Netherlands. The entrance to the villa Rams Woerthe in Steenwijk. The villa is now a museum of the sculptor Hildo Krop.
Art Nouveau is one of my favourite artistic styles, although rarely seen now. (apart from the French Metro of course). I love the way that it borrows so much from nature, in shape and form. One of your reader's comments asked 'why it was painted green'. I think that must be obvious... the railings resemble plant life and nature.
Thanks for this post. The best art nouveau railings I have ever seen.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenTerrific fence, terrific building and terrific photo.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI so love it...love the design and the color.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat's an outstanding ornate fence with an equally outstanding gate. I wonder why they chose to paint it green.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI love all the curliques! And that small gate for people without cars is wonderful!!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI really like your perspective. Beautiful gate. I especially like the Rams Woerthe letters.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenQuite the entrance. Also like the pattern and flow of the brick walkway leading to the gate.
