You have never flown in your live but still want to do it then lets do it in a coffin like an airplane. Some tribes in Africa like the Teshi in Ghana have a habit to bury themselves in their greatest wish like a Mercedes Benz, a cigaret, a fish or whatever you desire. A habit in early days just for chiefs is now a complete industry.
Here another example of the many possibilities as seen in an exhibition a few weeks ago in the Amsterdam Tropical Institute.
Here a movie from National Geographic about the makers of these coffins.
I dedicate this post to taphophile tragics although there is no tragic here I guess.
That is extraordinary! I have never heard nor seen anything like this! Extraordinary that this is a practice in Africa! Fascinating post!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenA little spooky, very interesting. I must say I have my fair share of bizare encounters travelling arounf Asia !
BeantwoordenVerwijderenFantasy coffins! What a hoot! They do not seem, to me at any rate, to be very culturally genuine. Well, not the mercedes and the aeroplane. And he only makes 100 per year, but I guess that is 2 per week. Still, not a massive income.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThose are great. I expect that have to dig a larger hole though.

Now that you've reminded me I remember seeing a story about this on TV. Maybe on Nat'l Geo.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI wouldn't want to bury something so rare and unusual!
BeantwoordenVerwijderen- including myself ;)
Wow, the whole funeral industry, with emphasis on the word industry, is a little discomforting, apparently everywhere. I saw an image a while back of a kid embalmed in a pose sitting on his prized motorcycle - which was to be buried along with him. These must cost quite a bit...
BeantwoordenVerwijderenFascinating post, sc. You have opened my eyes a little wider to differing cultural traditions.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHi S.c.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHow eye-opening! So unique and special. Good opportunity to learn the cultural difference.
how interesting! i would never ever have come up with something like that!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenbut somehow a little sad too....
Just amazing! I love Africa, have travelled a lot there and I'm always very interested in the different cultures, but never heard of this before. Thank you!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenvery cool. Makes you think.
