There was a time when every amsterdam canal house contained such displays or others on tiles in the kitchen department. Also in other well to do houses in the country. That period is definitive over but in the tower on the picture ( The Munt ) is a shop for tourists that still sell those murals. One for Sami's Colorful World here.
That is a beautiful piece of art. If I were a tourist I would definitely make a purchase.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenI wonder if the cost of tiles is comparable now to a few centuries ago. I think we value artists’ work more now, and pay accordingly. There’s a tile manufactory in our town (very different style of course) and they do make murals but the cost is quite high.
