Ai Weiwei 2

In March 2012 Ai Weiwei placed lanterns on the surveillance cameras that surrounded his house in Beijing. The peaceful protest recalls Flower Power , an image token in 1967 on the moment when a protester against US involvement in the Vietnam War placed carnations into the rifle barrel of a National Guardsman. With great irony Ai addresses the question of surveillance in China by decorating the cameras with a symbol of the country’s festive tradition. The whole wall was further covered with an arm with an attached hand with the middle finger in different groups. You can say that it was a kind of mural here. (Exhibition in Foam)
It really covered all the walls. One for Monday Murals here.

  1. The artist was certainly making a point with the finger.

  4. I don't think such a Mural can be possibly allowed in our country, interesting from the Chinese Artist.
(SC. thanks for the concern of the language, but the writing are only a record of my own emotions when I posted the picture; perhaps the meaning and feelings only which I can understand.)

  5. I understand and support his point of view. But is it an effective way to promote change?

  8. Interesting. I saw his exhibit here in Berlin a few years ago. I wasn't that impressed.

  9. Are we to assume that the Chinese authorities are not familiar with this gesture? I had the privilege of seeing his complex art installation on Alcatraz a couple of years ago. It was beautiful and very moving. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
