New sign?

I saw this sign yesterday just behind the terrace left on the lamp pole. For people who don't understand it it also points to the regulation that covers it. (It is forbidden by the mayor designated roads or road sections to consume alcoholic beverages or to have in opened bottles, cans and the like). A first for me and it is clearly made for all the tourists that are passing by. If they understand it I don't know. One for sign, signs here.

  1. Sign may be new but we do have designated places where people are and are not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages. Although, judging from today's news, it's a sign that Lance Armstrong didn't read. :-)

  2. It won't be Canadian tourist... the same laws apply here.

  3. Normally a sign that says "you can't" would have a diagonal slash across it. This one seems to encourage the act.

  4. I'm not sure North American people recognize the red circle as being NOT ALLOWED. They should put a slash through the picture. I think that would make it more clear.

  5. Plain as day to me and I don't drink. But Halcyon is right, around here if it's not allowed a diagonal slash would be used. Tom The Backroads Traveller

  6. I didn't get it right. As I undrstand, if it's forbidden, there should be a red slash at the middle of the sign...meaning crossing it out.

  7. SC,
The sign looks like a dagger, but a good capture anyways!

    Peace :)

  8. Although we have the same law here, I agree that a slash through the sign might make it clearer.

  9. Usually when a sign here is meant to forbid something, it will have a red slash mark through the middle. So I actually might think the sign here that you show was meant to say it is OK to drink there. (I wouldn't do it anyway probably ;)!)

  10. Oh my...I don't think I would have understood it without you telling me...

  11. I bet none of the tourists can read Dutch. I sure couldn't but all of you speak such excellent English it doesn't matter.
