Amsterdam school again

Another example of the water movement in the amsterdam school style here in a fence on the bridge  over the amstel canal called the Kramer bridge after its designer Pieter Kramer ( 1881-1961). He was one of the most well known architects of the amsterdam school. From 1911 until 1951 he was also employed by public works of the city of amsterdam and designed in that time more then 220 bridges for the city. (70 from them are in the so called amsterdam forest ). 

Another example of the water movement in amsterdam school brickwork . Here a facade on the "vrijheidslaan" designed by Jouke Zietsma. The architects received

 only an assignment for the facade . What was behind wasn't paid for.

Denim

Yesterday visited an very interesting exposition about the history of denim in the central museum of utrecht.

Here a part of a miners trouser from around 1873. The first year that levi strauss & co made their jeans found in an old mining shaft.

From the same firm an ad today but I have never seen this one before.

There was also a workshop where visitors could make their own denim designs from old and new material.

Here a result from such labour but I must admit made by a student of an art academy.

Dutch housing projects

Here you see 2 projects in which my buro participated in the nineties. New housing for the Hague in Ypenburg. A so called Vinex area

The design is by Dick van Gameren who was then still working in our office. Now he have his own.

Lady Gaga?

In 2009 I saw this design on the mode biennale from artEZ in Arnhem .

Looks like a real lady gaga design for me.

Sunday Bridges

On this bridge, out of order since 1998, a restaurant is build. Its in the Westerdok near the Y in amsterdam. For more sunday bridges look here
