This offprint portrait of Lev Tolstoi made 23 May 1908 by Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky you can see in the Foam exposition Primrose Russian Color Photography in Amsterdam.
In the pictures after the revolution the use of red is an real eye-catcher as this portrait of young sea cadets from Yakov Khalip around the end of 1940.
This graphical shot with flag and a silhouette of the Kremlin is also one of beautiful composition and great symbolic value made by Dmitry Baltermans in the sixties.
All in all very interesting and I recommend it to everyone if this traveling exposition is coming in the neighborhood.
Yesterday, I visited an other great exhibit about Russia in Nice; I hope that "yours" will come around soon, as it seems very beautiful and interesting!

BeantwoordenVerwijderenAbsolutely WONDERFUL photos!!!!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAfter looking more closely at the photo of Tolstoy, I think I see that he is taking the picture of himself with a remote shutter release. Very neat! I love the soft colors of all of these!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenReally striking.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOh, this is wonderful!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI love FOAM. It's a fixed stop when I'm in Amsterdam.
