Cleaning

For ages the windows in Amsterdam were cleaned with ladders until around 1990 the inspection for healthy work conditions forbade this method because it gave to much accidents and a so called high worker was mandatory. That gave a lot of commotion because ladders are simple, cheap and don't take to much place in the narrow amsterdam streets. Today you see them nearly not anymore so this is a real exception. Yes the sign of progression. One for Signs, Signs here.

  2. Here we quite often see window cleaners using extended tools to reach second floor windows from the ground.

  4. I think using ladders would be the easiest way to clean windows like those in the photo. People are very careful about using ladders and of course accidents happen all the time no matter what you are doing.

  5. It is a social and economic trade-off. Which is more valuable, the health and safety of the workers or the cost of a bucket lift?

  6. Sometimes simpler is better! Interesting to see how things change over time.

  9. Ladders can be dangerous if not used correctly, but outlawing them seems a bit harsh. Interesting photo.
