Touching sign

The coat of arms of Gouda has lost a Star.
The accompanying text says in Hebrew and Dutch:

In 1827 at this place was the synagogue of the Dutch-Israelite Jewish community built.
Between 1940 and 1945, more than 500 men, women and children were taken away by the Nazis to extermination camps.
Their memory wil be blessed.

One for Signs, Signs today here.

9 opmerkingen:

  1. I was going to make a smart aleck remark about falling stars, but this is too serious a subject and deserves respect. May the errors of the past stay in the past.

  2. A very nice reminder, may the world never forget.

  3. Just a sobering reminder of what humans are capable of doing to other human beings.

  4. This type of acknowledgement always brings tears to my eyes.
