This fence along the gelderse kade is one of the last examples of street furniture designed by Alexander Schabrac in amsterdam. The most of his furniture (benches, streetlights and fences on the damrak and also on the nieuwe markt) placed in 1995 are already removed in 2005 because the city council did not find it fitting into the streetscape. ( Same who gave the commission in the first place, total cost €25 mil ).
One for good fences here.
Why replace it? Looks good to me.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenA most unusual fence design. Quite an attraction by the water.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenwow, so unique!!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGreat design! And such a perfect scene with the bikes attached.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt is a pretty fence and design. Replacing the fencing, seems to be a waste of money. Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOh dear, I smiled when I read that the city council paid for the street furniture and then had it removed. Seems like town/city councils make similar mistakes everywhere...with taxpayers' money. However, this fencing is unique and I rather like it.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI totally like this!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenPerhaps it is the city council that needs to be removed. I like that design.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenVery nice fence, colors, and composition. No room for love locks either, thank goodness.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI really like it! pity these were removed
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOh well. Out with the old, in with the new. So it goes. hope the city can sell these. I'm sure there would be interest.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a shame the others have been removed. This one is so unusual and attractive. It definitely does the job that it is needed to do.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenVery cool colors, s.c.. Shame they have to go.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSometimes I do not understand the officials. These fences are very nice and it's a shame when you lose them.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenShame they removed them because I really think this is a unique and neat looking fence.
