The fundamentals of foundations

Bij removing the top floors of one house the rest is going to lean in the direction of the gap and you can wait for real trouble. If there is not done something in the near future then we are also going to miss this sight going back to the 17th century. One for weekend reflections here.

  1. Things don't look good for the leaning building. I find it frighting.

  7. Dat ziet er behoorlijk dramatisch uit. Zou er niet graag naast wonen.

  8. Looks like we need to add a few floors. Surely that would be a solution.

  9. If this happened in America there would be lawyers lined up as far as you could see. What started the chain reaction?

    1. I guess the pressure on the house that is now the gap became to great so there was trouble with the roof and water came in. One of the pile fundaments under a building wall must have been given a little way.All the wood became rotten and the owners decided to remove the foul parts. I don't know when it happend but try to find an old photo to see if it was already so or not.

  10. Very visible trouble in this photo too! Like how removing a tooth effects the alignment of the others.

  11. I wonder if they could add some support beams and brace it against the house on the left. I hope they can be saved!

  12. These spectacular houses can not be elsewhere than in the Netherlands.
I once heard an explanation that the reason why the houses are narrow: The land is expensive, so built a small area, but high.
They looks just one person (single) houses, in particular, this small house between others.. And I love them all a lot.
