These two ladies in their local costumes buy an eel sandwich at the fair in their fishing village Spakenburg-Bunschoten .
On such days even grand children and their grannies are costumed in the local clothing. On normal days only the old are in the habit of wearing those.
This lady from neighboring Staphorst shows that every town have his own dress but it is a habit quick disappearing now.
Some old traditions will all be gone very soon with the young not having interest in it. Sad. Same everywhere.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis is custom worth keeping.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI would much rather see these costumes this way than in a museum.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe traditional dresses are beautiful, SC!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI too hope that such traditions and the many languages don't die away, as 'globalization' takes over.
Diversity is essential to human existence, I think.
Have a Beautiful Day!!
Peace :)

I like these kinds of fairs. I think it's fun to see the traditional dress of a place.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt's the eternal struggle between tradition and innovation, local and global. The changes happen more or less organically as people don whatever feels right or comfortable to them. One day we will lament the disappearance of jeans and t-shirts.
