Today is our national day of remembrance of WWII and I was thinking about it when I saw this marker pole last Saturday during our tulips tour. Everywhere in the polder you find these markers pointing to the place where a plane was crashed during the war. In this case the 10 men's crew of this flying fortress B17 ,crashed on the 8 of april 1944, lucky survived. 5 crew members were caught by the germans and 5 others escaped.
The panel on the pole give all the details incl the names of the crew. Unfortunately, there is no English translation available. These so called crash poles are work of the " stichting ongeland" (the not landed foundation) The purpose of the foundation is to keep alive the memories of the Second World War in the Flevo polders.
