Anne

Yesterday evening I walked over the Merwede square where once Anne Frank lived on number 37/2 before WWII. I saw some posters for a play about her life on garbage containers that are now placed there. I think this place is a bit dishonored by such a move.

Here you find a little movie about the interior of her house. Also one of the apartment buildings of plan Berlage which I mentioned last Sunday. The owner leases the property to the Foundation Amsterdam Vluchtstad which in turn home again makes available to foreign writers who in their own country do not have the ability to speak freely and write. One for sign, signs here.

  4. That was a nicely done film. It really brought across the home in a different way. Sad to think about.

  8. Making the flat available to those who may not have the freedom of speech in their countries is a wonderful, progressive idea. I dig!
    Peace :)

  9. An intriguing use of Anne's old place - offered to foreign writers. Lovely play of dark tones in this street scene that suggest heavy sadness. And yes. Posters and garbage bins somehow don't mix well.

  10. We have visited the Ann Frank house and found it very moving. I, too, am disappointed by commercialization of the location.
