Atmosphere in the big cities of North-Ireland

We arrived in Belfast just a few days after the orange marches and the atmosphere was still a bit grim.

Not many people on the streets except police

Next day in Londonderry a view on the Bogside from the city walls above. How is it possible that this situation still exist in our time.

  3. I don't think I want to go there. What burned down?

  4. Looks more like a controlled bonfire of some sort. You have captured the grim atmosphere with the nearly empty streets and police/emergency vehicles. Where was I just reading about, I think, Richard Feynman's optimistic-ish statement that as a species we are quite young, in our infancy really, and we have to be hopeful that we one day mature and do what we can today to move us in that direction. Others have studied violence and assert that overall we are a less violent world today (despite appearances) than we have ever been. I think despair is our enemy.

  6. It is pretty amazing that these "troubles" are ongoing. Religion is a funny thing.
