In the public space of the amsterdam town hall you find 108 portraits of amsterdam citizens made by 17 different sculptors.
The portraits are from inspirational citizens on proposal by others to give the town diversity a face.
It gives also a good view of the stand of portrait making in the Netherlands. If you scan the q-code with your smartphone you see an interview with the portrayed and why he or she is chosen. It is the intend of artist Saskia de Rooy to get 365 portraits in the end to give the diversity of the city a face.
Yikes, that one looks like a preschooler made it. A couple others by someone with no artistic skill at all.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat's pretty cool!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a great project for a city. Things like this are almost permanent so leave a record. It also shows a wide variety of sculpture styles.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenA really great idea. All too often a portrait is 2-dimensional.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI love these reliefs, and how expressive they are
