Manhole covers

The civilization of a society you can also measure on their manhole covers. First of all do they have them at all. Second how does they look. Here in Norway it looks very good as you can see on the ones in Ålesund.

This is the one in use in Bergen. Don't think there is only one. They are scattered around the whole city.

And as an extra the founder of Bergen by the name of King Olav Kirre in 1070. Although its not a manhole cover still an nice extra to the pavement.

  4. Terrific art nouveau style on that first manhole cover. Unfortunately ours are not that interesting. Well found and photographed.

  5. Makes our covers here in the States look awfully prosaic.

  6. Wow, those are fantastic! Says a lot indeed that a society values art and beauty enough to invest in making the most mundane things extraordinary.
