Bridge railing of the Vaz Dias bridge

This bridge, also known as number 238 in amsterdam, has a real beautiful railing made in 1965 by sculptor Herman van der Heide . As this is an modern bridge with 4 car lanes and 2 cycle paths the railing must be very sturdy to keep sliding cars out of the water in case of an accident. Oh and this bridge is also a modern cantilever one that can open for boats. Herman v.der Heide made 2 more bridge railings together with the bridge designer and architect Dirk Sterenberg along the same canal called "the Nieuwe Herengracht".
One for friday fences here.

  1. Very nice! Not sure it would prevent a small child from falling in, but an attractive barrier nonetheless.

  5. It certainly is different.
and since the roads don't have fencing alongside the canals, I don't really see the problem re: safety.
