Taphophile tragics

Here a man in mourning in Staglieno Genoa Italy seen in front and on his back. The funny thing is he looks just like my neighbour you could see on my post of 23 june 2012.
Well the statues are sometimes a bit to much I think.
I dedicate this to taphophile tragics here

  1. I agree that sometimes these statues became a bit too much after a time. Again, you have selected one that I missed!

  2. Not often do you see a statue cast in mourning! An emotional pose!

  3. Rather intriguing, who is he mourning, is it not a bit of overkill to have a that mirror image, must be a vip (very important person)

    Nice shot, though :-)

  4. Oo I do think this statue is very worthy. I suspect it is a husband mourning a departed wife. The pose is very naturalistic, especially with the placement of either hand. But I am wondering. Is one statue at the head of the grave and the other at the foot of the grave? They are ovviously not the reverse/obverse of the same stone.

  5. Much different than the usual pose for a statue.

  6. I can't get enough of these. The wonderful exaggerated nature of the response to death at the time always fascinates me

  7. Hmmm... I'm not sure what I'm looking at, with these two mirror image figures. Two graves? I do know melodrama when I see it. I know death is often (yet not always) tragic, but the surely grief does see an end. None of my commentary is meant to take away from my fascination with this. And the sculpts are really life-like.

  9. I actually like the way you pieced these views together almost as one photo. This is a very compelling sculpture.
