Shoemakers bench

Nearly gone but in times of economical decline priceless a shoemakers bench with tools all working with hand power. This one was plucked out of a little village and placed in a museum but still in working order and sometimes a retired shoemaker gives a demonstration not only how to repair shoes but also how to make them. ( This is the link for the ambachten museum)

  1. When I was a kid the Shoe Maker's Shop was a common sight. Believe it or not in Canada we still have some in business.

  2. So many interesting tools and drawers. I would love to watch a demonstration. Handcrafts are a real art. You did well to catch this so well in the light available.

  3. It's fun to see these workshops. We still have several good shoemakers in Vancouver but the shops seems to be pretty compact with modern efficient machinery.

  4. A wonderful image full of wonderful craftsman's tools from previous times. I love old tools, and old workshops. They remind me of my father's old workshop, which he spent many many hours in. The colours of this image have a real old feel to them... almost sepia!

  5. Nice! The light coming through the window adds a nice atmosphere to it. We have an old shoe shop around the corner, don't know how they stay in business these days...
