I want to show one more tree sign from the Jewish cemetery Beth Haim in Ouderkerk a.d. Amstel in the Netherlands. The grave is from 5465 and that means for us 1705. I now think that the arms coming out of a cloud represent god himself cutting the tree of life. Look also on the little angel called a cherub an typical style element of that time who carries the tree to heaven. For more taphophile tragics look

If I were superstitious I would say it looked spooky.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThey are quite direct with their symbolism, aren't they. And each of the grave stones is further embellished with a skull, leaving very little to the imagination.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThank you for continuing to contribute to Taphophile Tragics. I value my supporters in The Netherlands.
It is interesting how there can be so much more to the story besides the names and dates.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWow, i would not dare to photograph in a cemetery !
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat is not a grave site to forget soon! I've never seen anything like it. Thanks for the background information, sc.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAnother interesting example of the form - looks straight out of a Bergman film...
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat an amazingly ornate headstone! They don't make them like that anymore - do they??
